How much does the game cost?
XERA: Survival is now Free To Play. Anyone that purchased the game prior to the launch into Free 2 Play will be granted the Founders Pack worth more than the original selling price once the game is Free 2 Play.
What Engine is the game built with?
Unreal Engine 4.
Does the game have an anti-cheat?
Yes we use Epic Games Easy Anti-Cheat for our third party anti-cheat solution as well as our own in house tools for detecting cheaters.
What platforms will the game be available on?
Steam (PC) is the only confirmed platform.
What languages is the game available in?
We’ve made sure to cover most of the popular languages. The game is currently available in English, French, German, Spanish, Dutch, Japanese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Portuguese (Brazilian), Thai
Translations are experimental and not 100% completed. Work is continuing to be done on parts that have not been translated yet.
Will there be a way to have my own server?
Yes we plan to offer rental of private servers via our website. Due to security reasons we will not be releasing dedicated server files.
What happens when my player dies?
When you die you will lose all items that you currently have on your player. You can respawn nearby, random, at your sleeping bag, or at a safe settlement.
How many players can be on a server at one time?
Right now the player cap is 45-50 per server. This has been rigorously tested through tests and we hope to increase server capacity in the near future.
Is there base building?
Base building has been released and is now available! We plan to continue expanding the basebuilding system with new features as development continue.
What size is the map?
The new map size is 64sq km and was released at the start of Season 4. The map was revised for Season 5/6 and the playable area is slightly less.
Is there an in-game map UI?
Yes you can see the map by pressing “M”.
Are there any plans for more maps?
Yes definitely! A new, larger map was designed for and released during Season 4 and updated for Season 5/6.
Are there ways to quickly travel the map?
At each safe settlement there is a helicopter transport system. You can use the helicopter to travel to the other safe zones or jump out anywhere on the path. Using the helicopter transport system costs 500 currency.
How often does the game wipe?
At the end of every season, there will be a full wipe of all in game items, currency, bases, levels, missions and GI. The only thing that will not wipe at the start of the new season will be your skins, skin crates, and X-Coin.
Season 8 began on December 19th, 2024 and is planned to run for 2 months.
What are the PVE Elements?
The game has a Hunger, Thirst, and Radiation system. If you keep your food and water above 70%, you will gain a passive heal. Keeping your radiation stat below 200 will prevent you from losing health and radiation is removed over time passively or with radiation pills. Food and fluids can be looted in the world.
There are also multiple events that randomly spawn around the map including supply drops that can be looted for weapons, ammo, meds, and armor, crashed helicopter events that can be looted for a change for high tier loot, civilian bunker events that can be completed and looted for high tier loot, and compound events that have military grade spawns as well as other rewards for completing the event.
What progression elements does the game have and what are the perks of the Season Pass?
The season pass will grant you rewards based on your character's level. Season Pass holders receive double Global Stash space and access to special double XP events.
Leveling up grants additional perks such as expanded GI space, more in game currency, and vendor perks. We also have revamped the new missions system for Season 7 allowing you to claim in game rewards by completing specific tasks.
Bases are all upgradeable and work on a 4 tier system, wood, stone, metal, and Reinforced Metal.
What do levels do?
Levels show how much you have progressed in the game and unlock special rewards on the Season Pass as well as additional perks mentioned earlier.
What is the max level?
The current max level is 100.
Are there enemy AI?
Yes you will find XOIDS roaming cities and other points of interests. There are 3 different types of XOIDS as well as enemy bandit AI's that engage in combat similar to a player.
Is there any way to stash my items?
Yes you can stash items inside the global inventory at a safe settlement which is marked on the map. Your global inventory transfers from pvp server to pvp server. Global inventories are disabled on PVE Only servers. You can also build storage containers at your base for expanded storage capabilities.
Are there throwables?
Yes. We currently have grenades, smoke grenades, firecrackers, chemlights and molotovs. There are also other specialty grenades for disabling the XOIDS.
Is there a grouping system?
Yes there is a grouping system. You can make a group of up to six survivors. Group members are marked with a tag above their head which is visible through objects. Base building permissions for land claims are given to every member in the leaders group. Group members may only build on a landowners claim when they are grouped with the land claim owner.
For Season 5, we also released the initial version of the clan system allowing clans of up to 10 players to play together and have base building permissions even when the land claim owner is offline. Premium clans allow for clans to customize their clan tag color to stand out from others and allow up to 15 members per clan. More features are being developed for the clan system such as upgrading clans to support additional slots over 15 members, the ability to give specific permissions to members, and more.
In order to invite a player to your clan, you must be the clan leader.
To create a new clan, click on Clans from the Main Menu, then create a clan.
Once a clan has been created, you will then be able to invite players to your clan from the clans menu. Players that are on your steam friend's list will appear on the invitation screen.
If a player is not on your steam friend's list, you will need to add that player to your friend's list before attempting to send them a clan invite.
Are there any vehicles in the game?
Currently there is an ATV vehicle, a 3 person buggy, and a 5 person AMV. These can spawn at various areas around the map. Each server has a maximum of 18 vehicles that can be spawned at a time. One vehicle may be stored near your land claim for up to 45 minutes without despawning. Vehicles despawn after 15 minutes of inactivity.
Is there first person?
Yes you can choose to use first person in the game. Although there are still some improvements to be made to first person, in its current state it is somewhat clunky. This will be improved over time.
Is there third person?
Yes you can choose to use third person in the game. The game has been built with a third person focus.
What happens to my character when I leave a server?
Your character will fully leave the server and will not leave behind a “Sleeping” player. Your character is saved into our master database and all gear on your character is retained on the server you last played on. Equipment stored in your global inventory is available on any server and can be transferred between pvp servers by using the global inventory system. No-Stash and PVE servers do not allow access to the global inventory.
How do I earn skin crates?
Skin crates can be earned by completing in game campaign missions which are located in the missions tab of your player inventory. A total of 15 can be earned for free by completing all of the Season 7 missions. Premium Season Pass holders can also earn skin crates by leveling up their pass. The levels where you earn premium crates can be found by opening the Season Pass from the main menu.
How many missions are there for Season 7?
There are a total of 93 missions to be completed on the campaign for Season 7. The missions system is an essential starting point for new players to learn the game. You can access the missions by opening your player inventory with the tab key and clicking the missions tab at the top.
How do I set a pin code for my base parts?
To set a pin code on base parts, Equip a hammer, right click until you get to set pin code then hold e and the pin code UI will be displayed. Pin codes only need to be entered once per server reboot. If you want to verify that a pin code has been set to doors, gate, etc, equipping a hammer and right clicking will until you see the message "Change Pin" will verify that you have a pin assigned. If you see the message "Set Pin", a pin code has not been assigned.
How do I smelt materials?
For a furnace, you will use logs for the fuel type and ores as the material.
The refinery uses "reactor core material" as the fuel source (this can be found by completing reactor compound events and looting the center core once completed) and Xoidite ores.
The reinforced metal press uses Xoidite X-shards as the fuel source and metal bars as the material type to produce reinforced metal plates.
To start any of the above, simply drag the appropriate materials and fuel type into the item's container and materials will be converted automatically over time.
How many bases can I build and how many sleeping bags can I have?
Each player is allowed to place up to 1 land claim and 1 sleeping bag per server.
How many turrets can I build?
Each land claim can have a maximum of 8 turrets guarding it.
Where do I find USB Data Keys?
Civilian Bunker USB Keys can be found by looting crashed helicopter events or within open civilian bunkers.
Crater Lab USB Data Keys can be found by looting high tier military crates throughout the world, crashed helicopter events, supply drops, or civilian bunkers. A total of 3 different Crater Lab USB Data keys are needed to complete the event.
What are bandits and where are they found?
Bandits are NPCs that act like and shoot like a player. They will have military style clothing on and are known to be roaming around inactive reactor compounds and island compounds. Bandits also have a slight chance to spawn in cities anywhere else a XOID could spawn.
Is there inactivity decay on bases?
There are 2 situations in which bases will be removed due to inactivity. The first is when a player has failed to log into a server for 7 days. Failing to log into a server that you have placed any object on over a period of 7 days will cause all objects placed by that player to be removed.
The 2nd situation requires all of the following to be met for a land claim area to be removed.
- Player has created the account within 6 days
- Player has not logged into the server for 2 days
- Player only has 1 object which is a land claim
- Player is not in a clan
